Journeys is a specialty retailer selling branded footwear and accessories. The brand launched its first store in 1986, in Nashville Tennessee (which remains the company’s headquarters today.) The brand saw rapid growth, and within ten years had opened over 100 stores across the United States. Now, Journeys has approximately 1,200 brick and mortar locations across the US, and operates five retail concepts including Journeys, Journeys Kidz, Shi by Journeys, Underground by Journeys, and Little Burgundy.
The brand primarily caters to teens and young adults, and primarily sells trendy footwear. Journeys has described itself as the “anti-Footlocker,” in the interest of distinguishing itself from repetitive product offerings, overpriced labels, or function over fashion approach to footwear, instead focused on riding the waves of the latest trends in fashion, and not succumbing to the footwear trope of overpricing labels.
Journeys offers all types of footwear; athletic shoes, boots, sandals, high heels, flats, loafers, dress shoes, and more. They offers footwear from many of the most popular brands, including names like Vans, Adidas, K-Swiss, Crocs, Steve Madden, and many more. They also sell a selection of clothing, and accessories like socks, hats, watches, bags and backpacks, and more. Most of the items sold by Journeys cater to teenagers, young adults, and kids. But they offer a limited selection of adult footwear as well.
The brand is heavily involved in charity, community outreach, and philanthropic pursuits. In 2011 it launched its internal “Attitude That Cares” program; an internal program that encourages employees to get involved community outreach and service. Some of the philanthropic efforts engaged in by the brand include Rise Against Hunger, in which they packaged almost 3,000 meal kits in an effort to end hunger, Can’dAid, a community outreach organization, The Trevor Project, a campaign addressing crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth, Youth Villages, a program dedicated to helping emotionally and psychologically troubled children, United Way, scholarship programs, and more.
Attitude That Cares Mission Statement: “We believe in the power of diversity. We stand for racial equality. We stand for kindness and inclusion. We stand against injustice and violence. Together we are stronger, united through love. Journeys is a family with an attitude that cares.”
